The Ideas Page
Blaze is the guardian of the mysterious Sol Emeralds and a member of a
royal bloodline. That much is consistent about her...The rest of her
background is chaotic, to say the least.
Originally, Blaze came from an apocalyptic future, with Silver the
Hedgehog as her only friend. When Blaze sealed Ilbis, half of the dark
god Solaris, inside her body, she disappeared from time and space.
That was not the end of her, as the heroic efforts of Silver, Sonic,
and others caused time to reset into a more hopeful state, and Blaze
was reborn into an alternate dimension.
All was not well, however, as in this new life Blaze was brought up
solely as a warrior and a guardian...most of her life had been spent
trying to combat Dr. Eggman Nega and his machines. This life of
solitude took its toll on her mind and heart, and were it not for the
intervention of Sonic the Hedgehog
and Cream the Rabbit, her obsession
with her duty, driven by loneliness and guilt, would have allowed Nega
and his ancestor Ivo Robotnik to wreak havoc on both Sonic and Blaze's
Blaze mellowed out quite a bit after this adventure, though she still
remained quite stoic. When Sonic
and Tails visited her dimension, she
and new companion Marine helped them fight off the pirate Captain
Whisker, as well as the returning mad doctors, Eggman and Eggman Nega.
Despite being incredibly irritated with her at first, Blaze became fast
friends with Marine.
Blaze is a competent, focused, driven warrior. However, much like
Knuckles, her stubbornness can often inhibit her ability to function.
She has a tendency to repress her emotions, fearing that others will
see her as weak if she shows her true feelings. When she does come out
of her shell, she can be surprisingly intense.
It is not clear when Blaze will be willing to fully believe that she
doesn't need to take the whole world on her shoulders alone...old
habits die hard. But with every new friend she makes, a piece of
Blaze's mask is peeled back. Perhaps someday she will be finally find
peace. (Written by Terri Tsukino)
