Enemy Summary:
Tabuu was the god of Subspace. He wanted to cut the multiverse into pieces and drag it into his world, because Tabuu himself cannot leave Subspace. He had been trapped here by valiant unknown heroes during the near-collapse of the multiverse known as the Great Crash. That’s why he prepared an army and a leader for the offensive into the other world.
First, he took control of the Island of the Ancients. The Ancient Minister wanted to avoid losing his people to Tabuu, so he reluctantly agreed to be the main front of the Subspace Army, and begins development work on the Subspace Bombs and Dark Cannons. Tabuu took notice of the peculiar qualities of Mr. Game & Watch’s body mass. Through the Ancient Minister, he took advantage of these particularities by using the blood of Mr. Game & Watch to create a nearly infinite number of Shadow Bugs, which he then used to create more soldiers for the Subspace Army.
Tabuu also had his eye on Meta Knight’s ship, the Halberd, as a means of transportation for the Subspace Army. Using the Subspace Army, he launched a violent attack on Meta Knight and took the ship for his own. During the attack, King Dedede engaged Meta Knight, unknowingly making it impossible for Meta Knight to repel the Subspace Army’s attack.
Tabuu studied Master Hand and the fighters, and this knowledge led him to use Master Hand for his plans. Chains of light bended Master Hand to the will of Tabuu, who used Master Hand to enlist the likes of Ganondorf, Bowser, and Wario. He gave each of these minions a Dark Cannon and told them to hunt down any talented fighters that might stand in the way of the Subspace Army. Ganondorf pretended to swear allegiance to Master Hand, all the while planning to usurp power from within. Bowser was relatively loyal to Master Hand, but he did not care for Ganondorf's orders. Wario cared very little for the actual objective he was given and wanted to continue just doing whatever he likes. And of course, none of them knew about Tabuu.
King Dedede learned of Tabuu’s true nature and the power of his Off Waves during the taking of the Halberd. King Dedede began to worry what will happen if everyone wer turned into trophies. The multiverse as we know it would end by Tabuu’s hand. So King Dedede developed a special brooch. The brooches were set to work on a timer; when the timer runs down, the brooch will restore a fighter from his or her trophy form back to the original form. All you need to do is set the brooch on a hero that had been turned into a trophy and leave it there. When King Dedede learned that Bowser and Wario had joined the Subspace Army and are turning fighters into a collection of trophies, he decided to start his own collection. He hid the fighter trophies he collects in his castle, thinking the brooches will bring them back eventually if something goes wrong, but he ended up using the brooch he had made for himself on Zelda, and intended to make another one for himself later.
Ganondorf soon took control of the R.O.B.s and forced them to blow up the Island of the Ancients so that he could tear a hole in space large enough to fit a Subspace Gunship through. Once the mass production of Subspace Gunships yielded a certain number of units, it would then be possible to launch all of them through the hole at once. Once the Gunships were in the World of Smashtopia, there would be no way to stop them from dragging all the remaining pieces of the World of Smashtopia into theirs. Once that happened, there would be no more need for the Island of the Ancients or the Subspace Bombs. The gunship was meant to be Tabuu’s trump card, but the valiant attack by the heroes neutralizes the threat.
The heroes then faced Tabuu, who turned all of them into trophies using his Off Waves. Tabuu then began to reconstruct some of the pieces he tore out of the World of Smashtopia into a nightmarish maze. Thankfully, because of King Dedede's broochs, Luigi, Ness, and Karby were revived and used the brooches to revive the other fighters. The heroes ran through the maze, and fought their way to Tabuu. Before he could use his Off Waves again, Sonic the Hedgehog broke Tabuu's wings and weakened him to the point where the fighters could trap Tabuu forever as a trophy himself.
