- Powers and Abilities:
- Admittedly, Tom Nook's a bit out of shape, as the quiet
city of Smashville has had little reason for Nook to be active. As a
result, Nook tends to be a bit slower and weaker than he should be. He
is, however, very heavy, making it hard to push him around. Tom Nook
also makes good use of the supplies and tools he sells.
- Quoted as Saying:
- "Feel free to browse, but try not to carouse!"
- "Quite a bargain, yes?"
- "Ho ho ho!"
- "I bet you think...that all I think about is money and
how to make more of it, hm?"

Summary:
Tom Nook is an experienced, older character, and has survived the hard
life in the city. Perhaps he's better known for his services in his
various shops. Starting off in a run-down shack humorously called
"Nook's Cranny," Tom Nook has saved his earnings in his shop and
upgraded to Nook 'N' Go (a gas station-like store), Nookway (a
convenience store), and finally Nookington's (a department store,
complete with a hair salon). Even after his years of success in the
quiet town of Smashville, Nook has never forgotten the hard lessons
he's learned in the city. (Written by Light Bear)
Tom
Nook's
Moves: - STANDARD
SPECIAL
Moves
- Slingshot
- One of Nook's more recently-introduced tools, the
slingshot is used by villagers to shoot packages out of the sky. Here,
Nook can shoot it either forwards or upwards. They are similar to Pit's
Palutena's Arrows in this way, although they are less flexible and tend
to have a bit more sting and knockback.
- UP SPECIAL Moves
- Fishing Rod
- The fishing rod, as one is led to assume, is useful for
catching fish. Here, Tom Nook can use it a a tether recovery: the
longer he charges the move, the more power he'll have to throw it
forward. It's quite similar to Ivysaur's Vine Whip, although it has a
lot more range, both vertical and horizontal. It's really hard for it
to be timed correctly for an offensive move, though, as it is really
small.
- SIDE SPECIAL Moves
- Butterfly Net
- The butterfly net is excellent for insect collectors,
though particularly violent villagers amuse themselves by smacking
their neighbors in the head with it. Nook mixes these uses when in
combat: he pirouettes once, catching anyone within the net's range and
smacking anyone within the rod's range. At the end of his spin, anyone
he's caught is thrown forwards a short distance.
- DOWN SPECIAL Moves
- Present
- The citizens of Smashville are blessed with a
mysterious benefactor: on the wind or in the sea can often be spotted a
mysterious package, containing anything from a piece of furniture to a
piece of clothing. Taking up one of the many presents he has collected,
Nook will open it and fling its contents upon the ground. Whatever
appears, it will vanish if left unattended for thirty seconds.
Depending on what its contents are, the item that emerges will have a
different effect on the battle:
Furniture: It can't be picked up, it can't be destroyed, but it does
become a part of the stage terrain, forming its own platform. It can
range from a low coffee table to a tall bureau.
Gyroid: One of those weird dancing thingies. If any smasher (besides
Tom Nook, of course) looks at them, they may be entranced by their
dancing and forget the battle going on around them. The build and girth
of the gyroid suggests what type of character it is more likely to
distract.
Axe: Ahh! Watch where you swing that! It's a bit like the beam sword,
only it deals slightly less damage and it breaks if it is used too
much. Its smash attack is killer, though.
Parasol: Just like in Melee, these can be used as battering objects or
to float down to the ground. They come in a wide variety of patterns.
Pitfall: Exactly like the item: it will bury itself into the ground,
then it will trap any unsuspecting passerby into the ground.
Fruit: Any of the six fruits (apple, orange, cherry, peach, pear,
coconut). Simply pick it up and eat it!
Flowers: ...well, I guess they don't do much of anything. It does make
the stage look prettier, though.
- FINAL SMASH Moves
- Nook Eclipse
- Calmly, Tom Nook seems to absorb the power of the Smash
Ball. After dusting his hands off, Nook leaps high into the air,
blocking out the sun. He then reaches into his pocket and grabs a bunch
of leaves, which he tosses onto the smashers below. As is custom for
Animal Crossing, the leaves turn into various pieces of furniture as
they plummet to the stage, effectively becoming household meteorites.
After a barrage lasting about ten seconds, Nook returns to the stage,
his supply exhausted.
